Premier specialise in conservatories, orangeries and double glazing windows and doors in Oswestry, Shropshire & North Wales.
In the past, much of the focus on making a sealed unit more efficient was on the glass, but as technology has progressed we are beginning to reach the limits of what can be achieved with this element alone.
Now we have begun to focus on the ‘spacer bar’ – the aluminium strip running around the edge of the glass to separate the panes, and create the insulating cavity of the unit.
An incredible amount of a window’s energy loss is here, through the edge of the glass. And given that aluminium, the default spacer bar material is in fact an excellent conductor of heat, it isn’t surprising this should be a focus for improvement.
We don’t use a conventional aluminium spacer bar, our energy rated windows uses a new way of thinking - Warm Edge Technology.
Rather than a cold metal spacer frame, our sealed units use a modern composite polymer material which is up to 950 times less conductive than aluminium. The simple laws of physics state that by taking away this conductive material, the heat loss at the edge of the glass is hugely reduced.
Have you ever noticed condensation on your windows?
As moisture from our cooking, bathing and breathing comes into contact with a cold window surface, particularly at the edges, condensation occurs. As well as being unsightly and inconvenient, in severe cases this can cause damage to the window itself, and can become a breeding ground for bacteria. With our Warm Edge Technology, the likelihood of condensation occurring when warm air comes into contact with the window surface is reduced.
